Global Entry and NEXUS renewal checker: when to renew and what to expect
You can renew Global Entry up to one year before it expires, and NEXUS members are asked to start 364 days before expiry. Renew before the expiry date: a Global Entry renewal sent in time keeps your benefits for up to 24 months while it's processed, and CBSA says an on-time NEXUS renewal keeps your privileges. Enter your date to see your window and whether you'll likely need an interview.
The date on your card or in your TTP account.
Enter your expiry date to see your renewal window. The rules are below.
The renewal rules at a glance
- Global Entry: when
- Renew up to one year before expiry. A renewal sent before expiry keeps the benefits for up to 24 months after it while CBP processes it. (cbp.gov)
- Global Entry: interview
- May not be necessary. Some conditionally approved renewals can interview by video, and anyone can use Enrollment on Arrival. (cbp.gov, cbp.gov, cbp.gov)
- NEXUS: when
- Start 364 days before expiry. Renewing before the expiry date keeps your privileges. Renewals may be processed within 30 days. (cbp.gov, cbsa-asfc.gc.ca)
- NEXUS: interview
- Generally not needed if nothing changed. If needed, the CBP part works with Enrollment on Arrival. From April 1, 2027, new conditional approvals have 2 years to schedule. (cbsa-asfc.gc.ca, cbp.gov, canada.ca)
How it works
- Pick your program and enter the expiry date on your card or in your TTP account.
- Say whether anything changed since your last interview, such as an arrest, a charge or a customs violation.
- The answer gives your renewal window, what happens at expiry and whether an interview is likely, each from CBP or CBSA.
Frequently asked questions
When can I renew Global Entry?
Up to one year before your membership expires. If you submit before it expires, CBP says you can keep using the benefits for up to 24 months after the expiration date while the renewal is processed. (cbp.gov)
When should I renew NEXUS?
CBP and CBSA ask members to start 364 days before the membership expires. CBSA says renewing before the expiry date lets you keep your NEXUS privileges. (cbp.gov, cbsa-asfc.gc.ca)
Do I need an interview to renew?
Not always. CBP says a Global Entry renewal interview may not be necessary. For NEXUS, CBSA says you generally don't need one if nothing has changed in your personal information and there's no new information that may affect your eligibility. (cbp.gov, cbsa-asfc.gc.ca)
What changes for NEXUS on April 1, 2027?
Applicants conditionally approved on or after April 1, 2027 must schedule their interview within 2 years. Those approved earlier have 5 years, or until April 1, 2029, whichever comes first. (canada.ca)
Can I do the interview when I land?
Yes. With Enrollment on Arrival, conditionally approved Global Entry applicants finish the interview on arrival from an international flight, and NEXUS applicants can do the CBP part at a participating US airport or Preclearance location, with no appointment. (cbp.gov, cbp.gov)
