Frequently asked questions

Which USCIS field office handles my citizenship interview?

Usually the office with jurisdiction over where you live when you file. Your interview notice names it, and USCIS's field office locator finds it by ZIP code.

What does pending mean in USCIS's table?

Applications waiting for a decision at the end of the quarter. USCIS notes that some actions, like administrative closures and transfers between offices, aren't reflected, so pending counts can't be rebuilt from earlier quarters.

How long does my field office take to decide an N-400?

USCIS's quarterly counts don't include a wait time. USCIS publishes its own estimate on its processing times page: choose Form N-400 and your field office.

How often does USCIS update these numbers?

Every quarter. The April to June 2026 table was posted on September 8, 2026. We refresh these pages when USCIS posts the next one.
