US visa posts and wait times

In the Philippines, US visa interviews are held at the US Embassy in Manila. Photos and fingerprints are taken first at its offsite Visa Application Center (VAC).

The visa interview in the Philippines

The officer decides at a short interview. Here's what the US Embassy in the Philippines and the State Department say about the day and about refusals.

What happens

  1. 1You file the DS-160 online and book two appointments: first the VAC for your photo and fingerprints, then the interview at the US Embassy.
  2. 2The VAC is at Parqal Building 8, Level 3, Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, Parañaque City. You can also claim passports and submit 221(g) documents there for free.
  3. 3F, M, J, H-1B and several other applicants are told to set every social media account to public before they apply.
  4. 4At the end of the interview, the officer tells you whether your application is approved or denied. If denied, you're told why and also get an email.
  5. 5If approved, you register a delivery address so your passport and visa can be sent back to you.

Why US visas are refused

  • 214(b): you didn't show you qualify for the visa, or didn't overcome the presumption that you intend to immigrate. Strong ties at home are things like your job, your home and your family.
  • 221(g): the officer needs a missing document or more processing time. It isn't a final refusal. The Embassy says most administrative processing is resolved within 60 days of the interview.
  • Misrepresentation (212(a)(6)(C)(i)): lying about a material fact or using fake documents is a permanent ineligibility.
  • There's no appeal for a 214(b) refusal. You can reapply with a new application and fee, best with new information or a real change in your circumstances.
